Dainty Custom Made Waist Beads

I'll start with my personal reasons. I began wearing waistbeads because I wanted to feel good about my body. Childbirth, divorce, in another state away from my family had me feeling down and depressed. I ate my feelings. I gained weight.

I didn't feel like I was attractive.

I researched waist beads, their origins and the reasons for wearing them. There are so many. I came up with my own.

1. Weight loss.

Traditional tie on waist beads are threaded on durable threading. You tie them around your waist and they are there unless you cut them off. They are a guide for weight loss/weight gain. If I gain weight, they roll up and feel snug. When I lose weight, they roll down. They tighten if I'm eating excessively, and this let's me know to put the fork down and push away from the table. Being mindful of their position on my body helps me to control my eating.

2. Sensuality

Our bodies come in all shapes and sizes and they are ALL Beautiful! We bring forth life and that causes drastic change on our physical appearance. Waistbeads, FOR ME, made me pay attention to my curves, my skin, my unique body. It's beauty. I felt good again...FOR MYSELF. Honestly, men love them. I don't flaunt them or show them off, but past relationships have shown me that men find them sexy.

3. Confidence.

I decided to wear them for me. No one else. They are rooted in African culture. They are a rite of passage for young girls, body shapers, and a sign of womanhood. I LOVE THAT! Traditionally made of glass, there a so many colors and bead designs. Patterns and possibilities are endless!

4. Relaxing

My job stresses me out! I needed a creative outlet. Making waistbeads was it. I love making strands and seeing the finished product. Knowing what they do for me and how they make me feel, puts my mind at ease.

No one has to see or even know that you wear waistbeads. Your reason for having them are your own! Show them off! Don't show them off! Show them to your lover! (For their eyes only) Keep them for you and you alone. Whatever the reason, it's yours!!
